Oldenburg in Holstein or Oldenburg (Niedersachsen)? The latter would be fun and another parallel, as I used to live and work (in the theatre) there for two years and my older son was born there...

Thank You! I'm really happy about it! Finally a Grand Prize! Funny that we both made it into the rank of finalists in two consecutive contests! :-)And my next build/instructable is already in the makings since last autumn.... ;-)

Theoretically it should be no problem to electrify a trike like this. "Just" put a motorized frontwheel in and you are ready to go. But you should at least consider mounting a stronger fork.

Yes, I definetly liked the challenges. Taking tableware and standard weaponry is the boring part of the job. But when in the first meeting director and set designer started acting funny and giving hints about that one crazy idea they had after one glas to many of the good red wine, then it usually got interesting...Check out my other instructables. I documented several interesting props. My biggest challenge so far was the remote controlled watch. That took almost half a year from first meeting to the final product. The pinocchio nose was also fun. That one has been rebuilt already by several student theatres in the U.S. and elsewhere. They usually ask me if they can buy mine, that's why I know. ;-)

That'S wha I loved beeing a propsmaster: You get payed for tinkering!(It was other aspects that pushed me out of that field an back into teaching)

I would say build a rower with a bike flywheel, wrap a belt over the rim and the other end around a generator of sorts, bring some tension onto the system and you have two problems solved at once: added resistance and energy to charge a battery...Lots of potential, as you say! ;-)

Thank you!I thought about putting fan blades on the wheel but I didn't like the look (my inspiration, the green machine, has blades). That's why I looked for other solutions and came up with the magnetic resistance.

Thanks for the compliment. You're the second person to mention the hight of the pull and your probably both right. I'm already thinkin about improving this and still keeping the design as compact as possible. The length of the machine after all fits my needs perfectly. Maybe you saw in the video when I stopped and moved my back a little further back that's all the adjusment needed for me to get full pull length without hitting the stoppers on the rails.

Thank you! You built some nice electrified wheels from what I saw and professionally work in the same business as I do, only different topics (I mainly do social sciences at the moment). I really like your "Best possible work" project.

Thanks for the advice. I'll take that into consideration. To be honest, I already thought about that early in the design phase, but then still stuck to the actual design. But I still have some railing (but in a different colour), so maybe I come up with a version with a raised front axle one day.
Believe me, I tried and ran into two problems: #1 as stated in step 1: gravity. This most probably could be managed with little derailleur wheels.#2 length of pull: I couldn't figure out a way of connecting and routing chain, rope and bungee in a way that no connection had to go over a pulley or axle.So confronted with the combination of these two problems I decided to go down the (supposedly) easier road...
View Instructable »I see what you mean. I think that could work. If I'll ever do a second version of this, I might give it a try. The whole system probably would need a solid chain tensioner as well, but at least it sounds doable, as long as you attach the pull rope to that side of the loop that doesn't get in contact with the freewheel hub, thus maximising the total possible pull length.

Thank you! Upcycling is my thing... Stay tuned for another big upcycling project I'm at right now... ;-)
Thank You!
There is room for an electric motor. Maybe somewhere in the future I'll try...

Thank you! You got some nice projects on your own! Love the iPad stand. Very useful!
View Instructable »Thank you for the comment. It's great to get feedback from other rowers! I just updated the rope routing today. This reduced the friction rope to rope almost to zero. I'll see how long the rope makes it now.

The walnut stain method made this really worth the read even if it's not the kind of project I am aiming for. But one can learn some new tricks from almost every project posted on this site! How could this work on a larger scale? Ever tried something else like marons? (asking with an ecofriendly garden hut build in mind)I will definitly try this on one of my future wood building projects! Thanks for the tip!

Looks like I will post my shed build next year. It's still unfinished and needs a lot of refinement... So no competition there from my side... ;-)
