Thank you for your comment, Jim. That's a fair point, the spinning display adapter thingy could be improved a bit to make it work better - but in my case, it works just fine for what I need it for. The main issue I had was that I used a motor that was a bit too small and weak - to solve that issue, one would only have to replace it with a bigger one and edit the STL file to make the bigger motor fit in the enclosure.The point of this Instructable was to inspire members of this site and show them how gears can be used in a DIY project. That's the reason I decided to use only gears for the mechanism. The right angle joint, the clicking part of the mechanism and the use of gear ratios all solve different problems and show different use cases for gears.So had I incorporated the timer pulley I…

I have changed my 3D printing setup since I finished this project. Right now I'm using this box only for storage and I have a rack above my printer for all the rolls I'm currently usingBut before I had the drybox on a shelf above my printer.

Thanks for the tip! I live in Belgium and I didn't manage to find sealable boxes when I was doing the project from nowhere else than Amazon for pretty hefty prices. In the end, I thought that perhaps making a drybox in an IKEA box for the tutorial would make sense because everybody can't have access to the same boxes depending on where they live.But I agree with you that making the drybox in a sealable container would be the best :)
